Did a little recon trip on the Ocklawaha River early this week.

Never hurts to try something new so we decided to launch at “Gores Landing”, just south of Salt Springs in the Ocala National Forest, rather than our usual spot at the Ray Wayside Park on Hwy. 40, east of Ocala.

Ran into several large snags south of the ramp so we turned around and headed north to a spot that looked like it might hold a few Bass.

Hadn’t fished this part of the river in quite some time, and I really wasn’t expecting much…Within 30 seconds of the first cast, the first Bass was on. Pretty good start.

Caught 3 Bass on the first 3 shiners, and wound up limiting out in less than 2 hours. Largest Bass was a little over 5 lbs., smallest was 15 inches long.

Only had about 18 “wild shiners” or so, and got a hit on every one, and never moved the boat…Moral of this story? You either got a wild shiner, or you need one!

    Great help my boat is down haven’t ever been here is there any spots for bank fishing

      Terrence:

      The best spot to bank fish is on the spillway side of the Dam at Rodman (just off Hwy. 19). Two other spots closer to Ocala are at Eurika, and Moss Bluff. Both of these locations have fishing piers.
