September Cedar Key Inshore Fishing Report
The Redfish bite is on fire around the islands and bars. If you’re fishing, also look for the cuts in between the grass & bars. Redfish seem to love cut mullet, shrimp and small pinfish.
The triple tail have been biting good around markers and floating debris, flip them a live shrimp, they’ll take it.
The Speckled Trout have been biting good in the deeper flats, on the south side of snake key and off Sea Horse Reef. They’ve also been biting good around North Key too using shrimp and your favorite plastic baits.
We have seen a few Tarpon and the sharks are plentiful too and fun to catch.
The fishing has been great and seems better on the incoming tides, so come on down and get it while its hot.
September Cedar Key Offshore Fishing Report
The Gag Grouper and Amberjacks have been biting good around the offshore wrecks and rocky bottoms in 60-80ft of water. Amberjacks favor live pinfish and so do the Gags but they also love threadfins, cut mullet and northern mackerel too.
The Red Grouper still have been hard to come by but seem better in 70-90ft, also out there we have been getting some nice Mangrove Snapper too.
Anytime now the kingfish should be making another run thru here and if you’re fishing be ready for some cobia as well, it’s best to keep some rods rigged for a fight.
Next month when the water starts to cool down, the bite will get better and the Gags will be showing up in closer.
We had some reports of people catching some nice keeper sized & larger snooks on the nearshore wrecks, so get your permit and try for them too
Come on down to Cedar Key, the weather will soon cool down and the fishing is getting ready to go from good to great. With the way life is now, it’s time to enjoy it fishing or just walking around the old town of Cedar Key.
Till next time “Safe boating n tight lines”
