Cedar Key Inshore Fishing Report

Social Distancing with a huge Redfish

Social Distancing with a huge Redfish

The Redfish have been hungry and hitting on cut mullet, shrimp or finger mullet around the bars, cuts and up close to the islands.

The Speckled Trout have been biting again and the bite seems best in the 4-6′ grass flats, like south of snake key, out in front of North Key and Dead Man’s Key and also out in the 6-8′ grass flats on the southeast side of sea horse reef. We are still using popping corks and shrimp or your favorite soft baits.

The Triple Tail bite has been good too, around markers, floats and floating debris, they also love live shrimp.

We been seeing a lot of tarpon rolling too. With the hot waters, the sharks are plentiful, VERY fun to fight and are easy action too.

That’s a happy man and a Fine Cobia

Well the Snapper season is over but it was a good season. We did have to go out to 80-95′ to get some good fish and it was the same last year too. The Gag Grouper have been tough to get but we are still getting them in 50-80′ on hard live bottom area’s. The Red Grouper are still hit n miss, they are still at the 18’ mark and we landed a few 21″ & 23″ but not many. We did one middle grounds trip and there were a lot of 22″-25″ reds out there. We had good luck using Threadfins, Northern Mackerel and Menhaden for grouper baits, and of coarse live pinfish.

Amberjack season just opened up and we got a lot out in 95′ and will be checking the 58′ wrecks here shortly for them, they also love live pinfish.

The sharks have been terrible for us in the last 2 weeks, just stealing our fish on the way up, plus now that it’s hard to get tackle and weights, not good.

But the fishing is good, the weather is beautiful and its safe out on the water, so come on down and enjoy it.
