FISH OF A LIFETIME
Ocklawaha Fishing Report From Ocala Fishing Guide Captain Nick
On vacation in Ocala/Marion County from Colorado, Chris and Danielle Kelly scheduled a Bass fishing trip Thursday, September 24, that will not soon be forgotten. About 3 p.m. we departed the dock at Ocala Boat Basin/Ray Wayside Park, and headed north down the Ocklawaha River. After a short boat ride, we settled on a spot that was holding a few schooling Bass and had recently produced some nice sized fish.
Chris got things started by catching the first fish about 5 minutes after dropping the hook, a nice Largemouth about 2.5 lbs.. Shortly after, Dani joined in and evened up the score. The bite was pretty good for the first couple of hours, then began to slow.
About that time Chris latched onto a huge 8 pounder that turned a good trip into a great one. Like a true sportsman, he took a picture, then released the fish. I made the comment to him that on 99% of our trips, the women and children get the fish of the day, and we still had time and bait.
Sure enough, with about 30 minutes to go, and only a couple of shiners left in the tank, it happened. Danielle hooked into a huge 10 lb. Bass and turned a great trip into the trip and fish of a lifetime! We were ecstatic! The fish measured almost 27 inches! If caught later in the year this Bass would have weighed at least 12 lbs..
Way to go Danielle! Trips like this is what keeps me going.
