Record numbers of Largemouth Bass are presently being caught on the Ocklawaha River.
More schooling Bass than I could count surrounded my boat on two separate occasions this week. I actually lost count on how many we caught on our trip today, June 11.
Most of these schoolers are under the legal limit, but there are a considerable number of keepers moving with them. Several of the Bass we caught were over 5 lbs.
The schooling Bass will bite almost any fast moving “twitch”type bait you throw at them, while the larger ones prefer, as always, wild shiners.
Now’s the time, don’t get left at the dock, get your limit of Largemouth Bass while they last

Hot Dawg!…hearing about those Bass in the Ocklawaha gives me much needed confirmation that the river is well and thriving not to mention probably somewhat higher with all the rain that we’re beginning to get. I’ve been anxious to get on the water myself and see if the wife and I can’t pick up a few Specks to fry up along with some grits, hush puppies and cole slaw. What better way to celebrate a day on the river than to take home a few souveniers?
