Bass fishing on the Ocklawaha River has been exceptional throughout December, thanks to the first spawning period of the season.
Although we are not catching big numbers of fish, the ones we are catching have been Trophies.
You might ask just how exceptional is the Bass fishing? On a recent trip, 12/15, we caught and released 8 Largemouths in less than 2 hours. Three 2 pounders, 2 threes, a 6, an 8, and a 10 pound Bass. That’s 36 lbs. of fish!
Two subsequent trips on the 19th and the 21st produced similar results, with the small fish of the day weighing 4 lbs.
The numbers speak for themselves. If you’re looking for that Trophy Largemouth for the wall, now is the time.
HO! HO! HO! See you on the River!

Wow, 36 lbs of fish?! That’s quite the fishing run. I am jealous, right now it is snowing outside where I am. I could definitely go for a good fishing trip. Spring can’t come soon enough.
