Bass fishing on the Ocklawaha River near Ocala has slowed a bit, although the average size of fish caught has recently increased. The Largemouths, for the most part, have been coming off the bed over the past few weeks, and these lunker females are hungry.
The majority of fish caught on our last few trips have been between 5 and 4 pounds, not bad for May. Although we are not getting big numbers of fish, the one’s we are getting are well worth the sacrifice.
Best bet is to fish very early or late in the day, and fish the heavy cover, that’s where they live this time of year.
