Cedar Key Inshore Fishing Report
The sheepshead are biting good around the piers & docks, using shrimp or fiddler crabs. Most people are using a knocker rig with a 1/0 or 2/0 hook. The speckled trout are biting good too, but better in the afternoon in 4 to 6 ft of water on the grass flats and near the oyster bars. The redfish are more in the back marsh area’s but on the warmer afternoons they make their way out to the shallow oyster bars and up close to the islands. Both the trout and redfish are hitting best on live shrimp & mud minnows or frozen finger mullet and fishing slow with jigheads working them back to you.
Cedar Key Offshore Fishing Report
The sheesphead are starting to bite on the offshore Rock piles & reefs using shrimp and knocker rigs. The sea bass and grunts are hitting great in 20 to 50 ft, using sardines & squid.
The Amber Jacks are on the wrecks using live bait or butterfly jigs. The gag grouper are hitting but you cannot harvest them & please release unharmed. The red grouper are a little harder to find but are in 45 to 60 ft on live bottom areas using live bait or frozen threadfins, sardines and northern mackerel. This cold weather wont last, so come on down and wet a line.
