Cedar key Inshore Fishing Report
All of Cedar Key’s grass flats and areas close to the islands are producing nice size trout and redfish. Most anglers are using popping corks and 1/8 oz jig heads, tipped with shrimp, mud minnows or finger mullet. The Spanish mackerel are also in the flats area’s but in water 6ft and deeper, due to the sharp teeth on these fish be sure to use steel leader or you’ll lose them.
Also, near shore in the king fish hole area on the west side of the reef in 20 to 25 ft of water the bait pods are showing up, as well as the kingfish with several kingfish being caught.
Cedar key Offshore Report
We are catching big gag grouper everywhere and of course we must release them. The red grouper are plentiful in 48 to 75 ft of water on hard bottom and live bottom area’s. They are biting good on cut mullet, northern mackerel, thread fin herring and sardines. The Amberjacks are plentiful on the wrecks west of Cedar Key. We are also catching kingfish free lining a thread fin herring while bottom fishing and we’re looking for Cobia to show up with in the next couple of weeks.
Till next time, tight lines & safe boating
