cedar key fishing guideThe Gag Grouper are biting and are on fire in 30 to 45 feet of water and Red Grouper are biting from 40 to 60 ft.

The Kingfish are biting good in 25 to 35 ft as well, we landed a 40 lb’r this weekend.

Look for live them on hard bottom area’s, you can also fish around, but not to close, to stone crab pots,  buoys, which will be in those areas. Live pinfish seem to be the bait of choice and dancer crabs, but threadfin herring and northern mackerel and cut bait is working as well.

Also, just on the edges of sea horse reef, the Spanish mackerel are biting and are on fire as well. Some like to troll spoons, and others just sit, put chum bag out and fish on the bottom with 1/2 oz sinker and wire leader and using a float with a 6 ft 100lb leaded, using shrimp, finger mullet or cut bait.

In the next few weeks, the sea bass should be biting and in larger sizes as the water temp drops.

Till next time, tight lines & safe boating
