This is going to be more of a scallop report, than a fishing report, for the simple fact that is mostly what I’ve been doing, guiding scallop trips.
Dirty water is haunting us again this year. The difference is we still have clear water with scallops to the north and south of the Steinhatchee River. I don’t want to give you the wrong impression and imply it’s easy. The weather itself has created challenges. As I write this we have got a break from the rain and the winds have slacked up. This is letting the flats clear up, some areas we know have scallops.
Sand Trout have made showing on the deep flats 6-10 feet, Specks are still on the shallow flats, 4 foot or less, mainly in the morning. As summers go, it’s been mild, which I think contributed to the best day I’ve had fishing this summer. We fished shallow to catch 10 Trout that weighed 20lbs. Redfish can be found with effort, while I think about it, that’s normal.
