Steinhatchee Fishing GuideHello Big Bend Scallopers, I promised a scallop report. The season has been open a week and the dock talk has been about the water visibility. After all, if you can’t see them you can’t pick ’em up. There are scallops north of the Steinhatchee River towards Keaton and south towards Horseshoe Beach. Generally you will have to make the longer runs of five miles or more in either direction out of Steinhatchee to find clearer water. But the water does seem to be improving.

Once you get to the cleaner water and your desired depth, put your best snorkeler or two in the water and give a quick scout. If they can’t circle boat and pick up 5 or 6 scallops load them up move on till you find that kind of spot. Some times groups of boats mean something and sometimes it means nothing.

Yesterday my party and I found very clean, unstained water, 3 to 4 feet deep with scattered potholes and plenty of scallops, and the closest boat was 100 yards, perfect!!!

So don’t put it off any longer. Hook up the boat, load the family and come use our new 3 lane boat ramp with plenty of parking, or find a licensed guide like myself. If I can’t help you I’ll find one who can?

GOD Bless and Good Fishing/Scalloping
