Hi OutdoorUpdate.com readers, recently we’ve been fishing the flats and near shore oyster bars around the Levy County and Citrus County Coast with excellent results. Recently we headed about 5 miles north of the Withlacoochee River entrance to fish the grass flats for Speckled Trout. Caught several small Specs, but nothing to brag about.
After an hour or so of drifting, I decided to move further inshore to try our luck with the Redfish. We anchored up at one of my favorite oyster bars and noticed several varieties of bait fish in the area. Always a good sign.
Caught a Trout over 20 inches on the first cast, a keeper Redfish on the second cast, and a nice Black Drum on the third. Definitely a good sign. It was one fish after the next until the tide slowed around 12:30 p.m.. By days end we wound up catching 10 different species of fishes without pulling the anchor. Not bad for a half day trip.
Tip: If you’re planning a trip, keep in mind the “T’s”: Time, Tide, and Temperature. When the tide slows, so does the bite. Plan your trip around the tides when possible.
