The Largemouth Bass bite has exploded on the Ocklawaha River near Ocala. After months of high water levels due to Hurricane Irma, and a record rainfall year, the Ocklawaha River has finally settled down, and is back within it’s banks. The bite is on!

The first place I fished this morning netted 5 Bass in 5 minutes with a total weight of 23 pounds! I hated to leave, but I had to check out several other spots. After running through 2 dozen shiners, I wound up catching and releasing a dozen Largemouths. The total weight was around 40 pounds, including a lunker that tipped the scales at over 8 pounds. This is trophy Bass fishing at it’s finest!

I can’t imagine the bite getting any better, but the water conditions should continue to improve as we head into fall.
