The unusually mild winter we’ve seen this year has the Ocklawaha River Largemouths on the bed. From Lake Griffin to Rodman Dam, the vast majority of our Bass population are now spawning.
Most of the Largemouths we’ve caught lately we’re fat with roe, and hesitant to bite on the first bait presented. Typical for spawning fish. We’re having to fish the heavy cover, potholes, and snags to get the bites.
During these spawning periods I recommend everyone practice catch and release. This ensures we’ll all have fish to catch in the future.
Pictured below are several of our most recent clients with their catches. Oh, by the way, all the fish pictured were released unharmed.
Recent high winds have produced several snags on the Ocklawaha River. As always, exercise caution.
‘Til next time…see you on the Rivers!
