At the downtown dock, the Sheepshead are biting good with shrimp, fiddlers crabs and oysters.
The trout are hitting good on the grass flats in 3 to 5 feet of water using popping corks with shrimp or gulp baits. The redfish are hitting better in this stretch of warmer weather on the sand bars and near the islands, on finger mullet, shrimp and filleted whole mullet. There are also plenty of whiting and sand trout as well.

Cedar Key Offshore Fishing Report

The sea bass and the grunts, aka Cedar Key Snapper, are hitting good in 18 to 30 feet of water using squid, sardines or shrimp. There are plenty of gag grouper, for catch n release at 30 to 45 feet. The good news is that on January 1st the Red Grouper open up and with a 4 fish bag limit. They will be in 45 to 65 feet on hard live bottom areas, use threadfins, sardines, northern mackerel and cut mullet. Also amber jacks and trigger fish open as well and the larger Sheepshead should be making their way out to spawn from mid January thru march.

Till next time, tight lines & safe boating
