I was wanting to purchase a .45 pistol, looking at the Remington R1 model; can anyone give any information and how does it really stacks up to the other .45 manufacturers? Any info appreciated!

Also yesterday I remembered a Friend of mine that killed a nice 8 point with a 22 magmun, the poachers friend as some call it.
He was hunting squirrels and the buck walked down to the small creek he was by. He had one of these 20ga/22mag combo guns and shot the buck at about 40 yards. The head is still in his living room.

I decided to do a little project. I bought a 270 Ruger 77 hawkeye and my father bought a 308 winchester feather weight so I thought I'd try to compare the two.
Right off hand the Ruger kept the 3 shot groups at one hundred yards to 1" to 1.5" depending on the shooter(me) with the inexpensive winchester 270 130gr power points. But I'm sure that someone with better skills than me could do a better job.
Even though I've shot the 308, I haven't tried to see how small I could get the groups. But the thing that impressed me was the smoothness of the operation of the bolt compared to the Ruger, the Ruger seems clunky and loud while the winchester flows back and forth like it loves it's job.
I'm going try to get the Ruger bolt as smooth as the Winchester, I'll take the ruger to a gun smith and see if I can get the bolt to be a little smoother and quieter. I'll update this post as I get the info.

You can hunt with almost any thing here in Florida. There are people who hunt with 223's and 20gauge single shots to 300 win mag semi-autos.
Long range shots don't happen that much around here, the 30 30 is a good choice, I know several people that kill a lot of deer every year with it, I have a collector 94 that I got from my uncle before he died so I kind of don't want to use it and they don't seem to holdup as good as a marlin which I'm think of getting.
One politician I know in Dixie county kills many deer every year with one. I used to make fun of him, calling him a murderer because he killed a lot of deer, but he, his friends and his family eat them all so if you can eat them, you can kill them. There is another old guy I know who kills several deer every year some with nice racks with a cheap old 12 gauge single shot like you use to by at the hard ware store.
The 308 is very good, has distance if you need it, you can use it in other parts of the country and it has some width to the bullet. I guess what I'm saying is shoot anyting that you feel good shooting. I hunt with a 270 but it's over kill in most places. I've seen hogs killed with 30 30's, 45's shotguns and knives. So it's really the man or person behind the gun.

Hi just moved to Florida and was wondering what would be a good gun for hunting in Florida. I was thinking that it should be about the same as hunting in the Northeast

Trout is good now and they'er hanging out in the deeper flats, 6-12 feet deep. The shallow flats will still produce trout in the morning till about 9 or 10 and then they seem to quit, at which time I usually will move to the deeper flats or hunt Redfish. Redfish seem to not be bothered by heat heat and sun so much. In summer fish for them in the usual places, rocky and hard bottom areas, marsh points and creek mouths.
Shrimp may or maynot be the best but alot of people use them and a Cajun Thunder and shrimp combo works great. I've been using Bass Assassin Kwik Cork rigs with cut pinfish in the shallows and slow hopping jigs with Salt Water Assassins in the deeper flats.
