Cedar Key Florida Inshore Fishing Report
The redfish are biting and are on fire, incoming tide seems best but outgoing tide works well too. Fish up close to the islands, grass piles, oyster bars and cuts, fresh cut mullet on a circle hook or you’re your favorite jig-head, live shrimp or favorite gulps. The trout have fired up also, using popping corks and live shrimp or gulps. Fish the grass flats and cuts, in 3’ to 6’ of water. We also have caught some flounder and Spanish mackerel. This cooler weather should keep the fish biting good for the next few months. We have seen some Snook being caught too. This time of year, is all around great, its hot but the fish are biting and are on fire.
Cedar Key Florida Offshore Fishing Report
The gag grouper bite has picked up, we are catching 30 to 50 each trip but only about 6 to 10 keepers, gags have to be 24” now but the bite is good in 35’ to 50’ of water on rocky live bottom areas. The red grouper are still elusive, we are catching some but most are too small, I look for next year to be great though. The Spanish mackerel and the kings are here, they’re biting best in 25’ to 45’ over good live bottom areas. Look for bait pods and slow troll or while bottom fishing, put out a chum bag and set some free lines out back with a live bait and a frozen threadfin. Then just swap poles and grab that screaming drag pole and hang on. The snapper are still here but must be released unharmed. There are still some straggling cobia around the offshore wrecks and structure piles. And you can always count on the grunts and sea bass, which make great table faire. The sea bass love winter and should be in larger sizes as water continues to cool down.
So, come on down and enjoy the wonderful weather and hot fish bite.
Till next time “Safe boating n tight lines”
