Marina Customer Frank With A Nice Trout
February Cedar Key Inshore Fishing Report
The Redfish have been biting good in the back creeks and out around the islands and bars and better on warm afternoon days. As we look for the fish biting even better too with the warm weather coming. As usual we’re using shrimp, cut mullet and fishing on the bottom with a knocker rig or just a jig head. The trout have biting good too in the same places as well as on the flats, like around North Key, Dead Mans, Sea Horse and Snake Key using popping corks and just enough leader to keep off the bottom. Fishing can be a little slow with water temps in the 50’s, but it’s getting in the 60’s now so it will only get better as the warmer weather comes. The black drum like it cold too, the Sheepshead have been doing good around the docks and rock piles inshore using shrimp and shrimp based chum to get them stirred up. We are all looking forward to the warmer weather and not so windy days.
February Cedar Key Offshore Fishing Report
We haven’t been doing much off shore fishing due to the wind and weather, we did get a few days out, trying for Sheepshead and Sea Bass and Grunts. But the days we went, the water temp was still in the 50’s and we didn’t have great success, we got a few and I have heard some other people having good days, so head out to the nearshore rock piles & structures, use light tackle and knocker rig with shrimp and have some fun trying to catch those tricky monsters. The Sea Bass & Grunts are always hungry and make tasty meals and supply plenty of action. The Red Grouper are in season and I believe they are out in 50-80 ft, they will take any of your favorite frozen baits. We have also seen nice catch’s of Hogfish using shrimp too in 40ft range and they are excellent table fare, just hard to catch, but we have seen more people catch them this year than in the past.
