The Bass Bite Is Slowed A Bit On The Ocklawaha

Bass fishing on the Ocklawaha River near Ocala has slowed a bit, although the average size of fish caught has recently increased.  The Largemouths, for the most part, have been coming off the bed over the past few weeks, and these lunker females are hungry. The majority of fish caught on our last few trips have been between 5 and 4 pounds, not bad for May.  Although we are not getting big numbers of fish, the one’s we are getting are well worth the sacrifice. Cedar Key Offshore “Memorial weekend” Fishing Report

In 55 to 65 ft of water southwest of Cedar Key, Florida the red grouper are on fire and there are plenty of bait pods around as well. They’re hitting on mostly frozen mullet, northern mackerel and thread-fin herring. We also use live pinfish. There are also big gag grouper seemly everywhere, but any caught were released unharmed of coarse.
