Finally, It’s Football Season, Largemouth Football Season Again

The Bass bite on the Ocklawaha River, near Ocala, Florida  has exploded over the past few weeks. Just today we caught and released a dozen Bass in about 2 hours, ten of them were over 5 lbs.! The big Bass of the day weighed almost 10 pounds. Not bad for late September. As I’ve said before, “It’s football season”. Ocklawaha Fishing Report: The Bass Bite Is Improving

Largemouth Bass fishing on the Ocklawaha River has improved over the past few weeks. We’ve had several decent trips with limits of Bass being caught, along with several fish over 5 lbs. Look for conditions to improve over the next few weeks. Early morning is still your best bet for landing that lunker, but anytime is a good time to go fishing. Most of the invasive aquatic vegetation (hydrilla and coon tail moss) have been killed offf by the higher water level. Stained Water Yields Keeper Fish

There are just over two weeks of Recreational Scallop season left. The optimist in me knew with certainty that our normally beautiful flats on the Taylor and Dixie county coast would clear up, and those of us with opportunity would load up on last minute Scallops – but I guess not. I have removed the bimini top and the deck chairs from the boat. I did, however, leave the dive flag and one set of snorkel gear on board, just in case.
