Exceptions To August On The Ocklawaha

Recently the Bass bite on the Ocklawaha River near Ocala has been outstanding.  From August 15 through the 24th, we’ve had three consecutive half day trips that average 26 lbs. of Bass alone! Each of these charters produced Largemouth Bass over 8 lbs.. Unreal!  Roc Lariviere, visiting Ocala from Canada, caught the largest total weight with 31 lbs. of Bass.  Typically August isn’t the best month to land that wall hanger, but like they say there are exceptions to every rule. FIRST SIGNS

Although fishing on the Ocklawaha River is pretty good year around, it’s much better during the cooler months of the year, especially if you are after that Trophy Bass. Recently the signs of the seasons changing have began to be more apparent every day. Leaves turning… then falling all over the yard, less mowing of the grass, and my favorite of all, the start of pre-season football! Hot Yet?

Scalloping is such a refreshing summertime activity. We continue to pick up limits of the shellfish. In fact, the only day we did not get our limit was due to weather cutting our day short. I included a photo of a water spout, which illustrates how quickly these summer storms can grow and become violent. We watched this storm and spout develop out of nothing but a small dark cloud in about 20 minutes.
