On the other hand, if you are not picky about what you catch, and don’t mind being out in the heat (like most of our younger clients), then summertime fishing might be just the thing for you. Lot’s of Sharks, Ladyfish, Sail Cats, and Spanish Mackerel are all over the nearshore waters off the Levy & Citrus County Coasts.

Typically most of our clients are after a specific species of fish, and prefer the cooler times of the year to pursue them. This time of year we typically catch 7-10 different species of fish every trip, which makes for an interesting looking cooler at day’s end.

I’ve noticed lots of people having trouble with their outboard motors recently, most due to the ethanol in the fuel. I have a few tips to help you out.

1. Run your boat as often as possible. This keeps the ethanol in solution, not collecting in the bottom of your tank.

2. Use fuel stabilizer…it works!

3. Buy ethanol free fuel if you plan on letting your boat sit for more than a month.

4. Change your fuel filter and lines often.

5. Last but not least, if you are tired of all the maintenance, upkeep and other things your boat requires, just give us a call! We’ve got the perfect solution!

Bait pods are showing up and?there are plenty of Spanish Mackerel and some Kings at around 25 to 35 ft.

At 50 ft around wrecks and strong structure there are plenty of Amber Jacks ( reef donkey’s) to play with and in 48 to 60 ft there are plenty of those endangered gags, and some keeper red grouper, the larger ones are still in 60 to 75 ft.

I haven’t seen any Cobia offshore yet. But ….. this means that the next 3 to 5 weeks are gonna be on fire, the fish are there and they are going to be hungry!

Bait of choice, whatever you put down, we were using sardines, threadfins and menhaden, plus live pinfish are best for Amber Jacks or butterfly jigs

Yes lemonade, although we are in the middle of what is called the “Dog Days of Summer”, there are still fish to be caught around the Levy/Citrus County coasts. As a matter of fact, if you’re looking for numbers, and aren’t picky about the species, it’s an especially great time of year for the young anglers.

There are an abundance of what we consider ”by catch” that will keep the kids busy for hours.?Also, these fish are just a?short ride from the dock, provide non-stop action, and come in a variety of shapes and sizes.

Most experienced anglers might not be to enthused about fishing for these “non-targeted” species, but just ask any 12 year old if he or she wants to go SHARK fishing and watch the reaction.

Presently the Big Bend area is loaded with several varieties of Sharks, as well as Spanish Mackerel, Catfish, Jack Cravelles, Sting Rays, and more.

Our activities continue to be dominated by scallop trips. Which is a good thing.

We are thankful for such a wonderful resource to enjoy and share!

But, for me, nothing can substitute the pull of a upper slot size Red, or the violent head shake of a 22″ Trout in 18″s of water. So I go. Flats fishing in warm water is challenging. The rewards for determination will come one out of 3 days. I like to say “you won’t know if you don’t go”.

So fish early, safe light is between 6:30 & 7, and scallop when the temp gets up.

Although we’re still catching Fish around the Big Bend area off the Levy/Citrus County coasts, the numbers are down. Also the window of opportunity has shortened.

Recently we’ve adjusted our departure times to as early as possible, as well as moving a little further offshore to get the job done.

Surface water temps in the area are now approaching 90 degrees. The fish don’t like it, and neither do I.

Best bet is to plan your trips as close to the full or new moon as possible in order to take advantage of the extreme tides, and get out there early.
