I Guess Fishing Is Good!?

Cedar Key Fishing Guide Captain John’s fishing report was to the point.

“It said here and please put these on my web site”. I guess this means fishing is good.

Hey Big Bend Fish and Scallop Friends

First I want to tell you what I think about the Oil spill threat.

It doesn’t look like it’s going to impact our coast on it’s own. But, if a big storm or hurricane developed in the Gulf, all bets are off. Having said all that, personally, I’m hoping and praying that we are not impacted by the oil and preparing for the worst. I think that is what our State, as well our County officials are doing.

As an individual there is a lot of info to sort through. Taylor county emergency services seems to be as good as any.

Fishing the last couple of weeks has been typical summer time (warm water) patterns. Fish shallow for Trout and Reds early in the day. Deeper flats will produce Trout in the heat of day. Slow presentation and some days a GULP is what works. The bonus catch is worth the effort even when the trout bite is slow.

Flounder, Sea bass, Mackerel and a shot at a keeper Cobia make the 6-12 foot flats productive and fun because of the variety. I recommend at least a 20 lb leader to keep offs to a minimum. Steel leader will reduce your Trout strikes.

Offshore fishing has been very productive now that Red Snapper are boxable. Offshore Captains have had a good week.

We have Scallops on our flats and no oil. Requests are being submitted to open the season early. I do not have word yet. Give us call or watch the news for an announcement.

Thanks For Checking In, Pray For Our Coast If You Will.
God Bless and Good Fishing

A Yankeetown “GIT-ER-DUN”

Let me lead off by expressing my sorrow and regret to the people of Lousiana who have been effected by the oil spill. Our prayers are with you. There’s no telling how many folks have been ruined by this man made disaster, and I fear the worst of it is yet to come.

On a brighter note, the fishing off the Citrus/Levy County Coasts has been very good lately. Four days ago on 5/20, we ran out about 30 miles and caught our limit of Gag Grouper in short order. They ranged from 10-20 lbs.. On the return trip we pulled up to one of the outer markers and hooked up two nice Cobia, virtually on the first casts.

That’s the way I like to do it, you know, “Git-er-dun”

We spotted numerous bait pod’s through-out the day, and the Spanish Mackerel everywhere.

I have several near shore trips lined up for this week, so check back with us for the Trout/Redfish forecast.

Offshore of Yankeetown Fishing Report With Good Friends

What Are Friends For? To Go Fishing With!

captain_lance_galmourHey Everyone, Mother Nature has been very nice to us offshore anglers lately, and she has allowed me to roam to some of my deep water haunts.

This trip was with some good friends of mine and their family. Russ did a complete over haul on the motor on my little truck and would not take any money for it, but asked if I would take him and some family members offshore fishing for the day. They had a great time and put a lot of fish in the boat of all verities.

The action was so good through out the day that I didn’t get a chance to snap many photos, but if you look at the pic-nic table………….there’s 10 feet of fillets ! ! !

September is almost upon us and that is when our fall fishing starts to pick up, so get with all of your fishing buddies and family members to get some dates together.

FOR THE MONTH OF SEPT. THESE ARE THE DATES I CAN FISH —?SEPT. 1st through 11th — 19th & 20th — 26th & 27th ! ! !

I have a BFCT fire class that I must attend for my State Job that I will be at during the week ONLY ! ! ! It starts on 9/13 and runs to 10/2, BUT I WILL be available to run on weekends.

Enjoy the pics and hope to hear from you all soon. Take care.

Steinhatchee Fishing Is Very Interesting

Steinhatchee Fishing Reports from
Steinhatchee Fishing Guide Captain Steve Kroll

pepperfish_key_galmour_shotHey Y’all!
These days fishing is very interesting, as well as exciting!

I say that because Trout limits have been difficult and Redfish have been easy. Not usually the case.

My parties and I have had to cull oversize Reds to catch limits of keeper size, and one day this week we had to move out of?a location in order to try to catch keeper size Trout. Not because the fish short-they were BIG!

In Florida, we are allowed to keep one Trout per person over 20″. GET THE PICTURE! It was a BIG WEEK. I like to call this a “luxury problem”. When you add Cobia, Jack Crevalle  and Big Bluefish–somebody is going to get their string pulled. Offshore fishing has been good as well.

God Bless, Good Luck and Good Fishing
