Cedar Key Florida Inshore Fishing Report
The Redfish are still biting here in Cedar Key and they’re on fire. They seem to love the incoming tide, fresh cut mullet, shrimp, mud minnows or gulps. Fish around the oyster bars, cuts and up close to the islands. The Speckled trout are biting good too, using popping corks with jig heads with gulps or shrimp. The Spanish Mackerel are coming through also and they will bite the same baits but you may want to use a heavier leader or wire to keep from getting cut off. The tarpon are biting good too, they seem to like whole mid-sized mullet. Try floating a bigger rig out while fishing for trout and reds, they seem to be around deeper cuts and look for mullet schools running for their life.

It’s still tuff to get red and gag grouper that are the legal size, but we are catching a good amount of them, mostly in 50-70 ft. of water. There have been a few cobia caught too. The Spanish Mackerel are here and I look for the Kingfish to be here any day. There are plenty of bait pods busting all around in 25-35 ft. of water. The red snapper are still plentiful but you must release them unharmed. The sea bass and grunts are still biting well. I do look for the gag grouper bite to turn on as the water temperature drops using threadfins, sardines, mullet and live pinfish

Fishing is Good In Cedar Key

Cedar Key Florida Inshore Fishing Report
The Cedar Key redfish are on fire and they seem to like this fairly hot weather. Using gulps, shrimp and cut mullet seems to be on their diet. Fish the oyster bars, cuts and up close to the islands. The incoming tide seems best and moving water is important, plus you got-ta have enough water to get up close to them.
The trout are a little scare-ish right now, but being in 5 to 8 feet of water on the grass flats and out off the edge of sea horse reef seems to be working. People are getting results using popper corks and just a jig head, slow jigging off the bottom, they’re also using gulps and shrimp.
A few mackerel have been caught and some triple tail. The tarpon have been jumping all over the place and people are having fun catching and releasing them. The sharks are plentiful and super fun to catch, we have seen a lot of 5 ft plus being caught as well.

Cedar Key Florida Offshore Fishing Report
Well, the snapper have been awesome this year, the season closes September 4th, but they will be fun to catch and release. Please use circle hooks and release them unharmed, they are a wonderful resource for us.
The gag grouper have been tough to catch and harvest over 24”, but we are catching plenty under sized in 25 ft to 60 ft. The red grouper are really plentiful but with the same issue, just not big enough. I look for this fall and next season to be a banner year, they are healthy and rebounding from the bad red tide a couple years ago.
The kings should be coming thru late September and October. The grunts and sea bass are biting very well and are great table fare. We are still catching a couple of cobia, but I’m not sure if they’re coming back thru or they’re residents.
If you want a tug of war, the Goliath groupers are fun to play with, but you better have some stout tackle.

Cedar Key Fishing Is Looking Hot In August

Cedar Key Florida Inshore Fishing Report
The water temperature is hot and so is the redfish bite. The bait of choice is fresh cut mullet, but shrimp, pinfish and gulps work too. The incoming tide seems best around the islands and oyster bars. The trout are biting good too, but the bite seems best in 5-7′ water. They are also out on the edge of seahorse reef. There have been some cobia and mackerel caught and the tarpon have been plentiful as well and they seem to love mullet. The sharks also have been abundant and some big hammerheads, tigers and bulls, using bigger cut baits.

The snapper are still thick at 55-75 feet, we use chum bags and weight them down 30ft and its not long till they swamp the boat, sardines or threadfins seem best. I seem to catch bigger ones free-lining out the back of the boat also. The red grouper are making a good come back, still small but they are biting good. The gags are being a little finicky but it’s hot and we are catching shorts and a few keepers, I look for the bite to pick up better this fall. There are plenty of nice sea bass and grunts too and every trip has produced good catches and has been a lot of fun. So come on down and enjoy a day out on the water.

So come on down to Cedar Key, the weather is finally good, the wind has stopped blowing and the fish are hungry. Remember to stop by the marina for your Cedar Key fishing supplies, Cedar Key boat rentals and daily current fishing details!

Cedar Key Inshore Fishing Report
The Speckled Trout bite is great and they are still on the grass flats in 3 to 5′ of water and around the bars & cuts. People are using popping corks, 1/4 oz jig heads with live shrimp, gulps and assassin soft baits. The Spanish Mackerel are in close too as well as many kinds of sharks. We have been catching Cobia around the markers and flats and many Tarpon have been spotted too. The Redfish are biting good and it’s only getting better. We also have been getting some triple tail around the buoy markers, using shrimp with small hooks and no weight, just drift it up to them.

The Kingfish are still patrolling the coast and the Cobia have turned on pretty good too. The Spanish Mackerel are out around the reef grassy areas at about 10′. The Gag grouper and red snapper are biting and are on fire in 45 to 60 ft, and we can’t wait till Thursday June 1st to start keeping some. The Red Grouper are on the rebound, we are catching them but they are only 15 to 18″, so we look for that to get better as the months go on.
