Speckled Trout Fishing Has Been The Best Ever
In spite of some late cool weather we are in full spring swing. Speckled Trout fishing has been consistently the best ever. Right now we are catching Trout on the deep flats, jigging and shallow flats jigging or corking with cut pinfish. And some big fish, getting our over 20″ limit on a lot of days.
Redfish are another story, some days I find them and some days not. We generally have time to hunt them, as a result of great Trout fishing. But they have not been showing up consistently.
It may have some thing to do with crazy spring weather.
We have also caught some nice spring bonus fish on the flats, Flounder, and big Sea Bass,
Spanish Mackerel, seen but haven’t caught keeper size Cobia yet.
Spring time fishing is Hot, come see us!

Gulf Fishing Is Alive And Well
Fishing on Florida’s Nature Coast is alive and well. Last Thursday all the planets aligned. The tide, time, temperature and weather conditions were all perfect for an offshore trip.
I and two of my fishing partners, Doug and Pat, struck out about 8 a.m. from the Yankeetown Public Ramp. We ran offshore about 15 miles and thanks to Doug’s driving, it took about 30 minutes.
Before the anchor had took a set, Pat was hooked up. Cobia everywhere! The “fire drill” was on. There’s nothing like sight fishing Cobia. On my second bait, pinfish (free lined on top), I was hooked up with a nice 45 pounder. In no time at all we had our limit and had released several fish over 20 lbs.. What a day!
Well, I guess this has been more of a fish story than a fishing report, but like I said before, fishing off Florida’s Nature Coast is alive and well.
Good Luck & ‘Til next time…see you on the Gulf!

Captain Steve’s Steinhatchee Fishing Report
Hi Steinhatchee Friends, what great fishing we’re having and I expect to have for a while.
Speckled Trout are feeding good right now and my guess is they are engaged in mating rituals, or getting ready to. Tuesday 4 of 5 trout were males, they were drumming. I’m sure they have to eat more during this time. Now we could have a lot of fun with conversation, but lets not and say we did, HaHa. The large females have bit well also, I’m sure the same applies. Trout seem to be everywhere, shallow and deep flats where grass is present. However, if you are not catching keeper size fish you need to move.
Redfish have been a lot of work. The last few weeks I could find them, but could not get bit except for 1 or 2 a trip. Cool water I think. Then finally Tuesday we had a 9 Red day, and of course the water temp was up to 71.
I think spring may finally be here. Even if we do have a cold snap it shouldn’t be enough to set us backwards.
As the water warms everything that swims will begin to show up. The action on the flats will be nonstop, Speckled Trout, Redfish, Flounder, Seabass, Spanish Mackerel, Cobia, Tarpon, Bluefish, Ladyfish, Jack Crevalle … I’m sure I left something out but you get idea.

Inshore Cedar Key Fishing Report From Cedar Key Marina
Finally some nice weather, the fishing was hot this weekend and there were numerous reports of limited catches of Speckled Trout and Sand Trout all good and fat. The areas producing? All of the grass flat areas, North Key, Dead Mans Channel, Gomez Key and in between Osenotie and Snake Key.
The red fish are still in the Back Marsh areas, due to the water being about 60 to 63 deg, but I believe by the 2nd week of April it will be in the 70′s and they will move out and the Spanish Mackerel will be here as well. So come on down, the weather is great and the fishing is hot.
Till next time, tight lines and safe boating

The Speckled Trout Have Been Plentiful And Large
Winter is kinda hanging on here in mid March. I hope it is the last of it. The fishing however has been great. Sheephead showed up right on schedule, the Speckled Trout have been plentiful and large and the next few weeks should be real good for the Porgie fish.
As water temps rise Specks will take up residence on the flats. If the cool nights continue I think they’ll stay close creeks and deep water access. Same thing goes for Redfish, except it seems to require a south breeze and sunshine for them to bite.
Fishing the cooler water temps a Saltwater Assassin plastic will do the job very well. Use a light jighead, like 1/16oz Assassin so that you can work it slow. I like anything with pink in it for clear water. In slightly dirty water I put on a Chicken on a Chain and it worked as well. Ms. Lisa Hayes caught the real nice Trout in the photo with it.
