Cedar Key Inshore Fishing Report
The Spanish Mackerel are running thick on the flats, them and the speckled or spotted trout are best south east of Snake Key. The red fish are back on the shoals and near all of our islands. We are using Cajun Thunder corks with 40 lb leaders and 1/4 oz jig heads and live shrimp and finger mullet. The red fish really love live mud minnows too. The Sheepshead are still around the docks and the bigger ones are out in 18 to 30 ft on the artificial reefs, we are using trout rods with 40 lb braided line, 1-1.5 oz knocker rig, with live and frozen shrimp. I also like using chum, I make mine with rice, sand, minced clams, clam juice and menhaden oil mixed with salt water, just scoop it over every time they stop biting.

Cedar Key Offshore Fishing Report
The amber jack’s, aka “reef donkey’s”, are thick as thieves out on the wrecks in 58 to 75 ft of water. The “ENDANGERED” gag grouper are every where, from 30 to 75 ft. The red grouper are biting good from 52 to 75 ft, we’re using, Northern Mackerel, thread fins, menhaden, mullet and live pin fish as well. The amber jack’s prefer live pin fish but will bite butterfly jigs too.

I look for the King Fish to show up soon, we haven’t seen a lot of bait pods yet, but we can’t be but a couple of weeks away.

Till next time, tight lines & safe boating

Cedar Key Inshore & Offshore Fishing Reports

The Redfish and Speckle Trout are on fire and are large in size. Fishing around all of our islands and 4 to 6 ft grassy flats, using popping corks and live shrimp, mud minnows or frozen finger mullet has produced results.
The Sheepshead are super plentiful around the docks as well and we’re catching some Spanish Mackerel too.

Offshore Fishing Report
Near shore rocky areas, in the Kingfish hole and 10-3 hole are producing good size Sea Bass, and some gag grouper, which you have to release unharmed. We noticed some bait pods showing up as well which is a good sign that it won’t be long before the Spanish and Kingfish show up, there are Cobia will be here too. We are having good luck with larger red grouper in 60 to 75 ft of water but they can be caught in 40 to 50 as well, just a lot more shorts to weed through.

So now’s the time to come on down to Cedar Key and get em
