A Cedar Key, Florida Fishing Report

cedar-key-marina-galmour-shotWinds Are A Blow’n In Cedar Key

Don at Cedar Key Marina says fishing has been slow in Cedar Key with the winds blowing hard the last week or so. This past weekend fishing was dead and needed to be, the seas were too high to enjoy a fishing trip.

Last Saturday a group from the marina was about to die to do some fishing and decided to go with seas projected to be two to three feet. When they got past the reef seas were four to six feet, they decided to turned around and not even wet a line.

But Don says good fishing should return once the winds die down so watch the weather and seas and get ready because it will soon turn nice.

Yes it’s Cedar Key, that means the sun will shine, the winds will be calm and the birds and the people will come out and start singing.

Stop by Cedar Key s only full service marina and see Don.

The Bites A Start’n

A Cedar Key Florida Fishing Report

cedar-key-marina-galmour-shotI just called Don of Cedar Key Marina to find out about the fishing in Cedar Key, Florida and he saidthe trout are starting to bite and the fishing is starting to get good.

The reds are biting good on the oyster bars and the sand trout, whiting and sheep head are biting well too.

They’ve been catching fish on the culverts, off shore and on the pier. People have been having good luck at the pier and just a few days ago Don and Captain John Blouse of Hooked Up Charters watched a boat using shrimp fill their limit with nice size sheep heads at the culverts.

Shrimp has been the main bait but the mud minnows should start coming in soon and they will be good for redfish.

Also within the last day, reports of the a lot of Spanish Mackerel at the culverts have been coming in.

Stop by Cedar Key’s only full service marina and see Don. He?isn’t an internet man, so email’s not his thing but he’d be glad to help if you stop by. He can answer your questions about fishing in Cedar Key.

Big Bend “GATORS-R-HOT”

This Crystal River & Yankeetown Florida Fishing Report is From
Crystal River & Yankeetown Fishing Guide Captain Nick

Sorry for the delayed report, but we have been extremely busy over the past couple of weeks. This by far is our busiest time of the year, and sometimes there is just not enough hours in the day.

If you get the timing right, the Hot Water Discharge Canal at the Progress Energy Plant near Crystal River  is hard to beat.

Recently, lots of huge Gator Trout, as well as Snook and Black Drum have been taken there. The Trout bite has really been HOT, but the window of opportunity each day is short.

Try fishing as close to the barrier as possible, just before and after the high tide. Live shrimp on a knocker rig works really well.

Better get them while they are HOT.

When planning your next fishing trip on the Gulf, take the time to check out the Home page of this website, www.outdoorupdate.com and access the link to the wind forecast for the area that you are fishing. This forecast is updated by NOAA every 6 hours and provides you with best information for the safety of your fishing trip.

Early March Steinhatchee, Florida Fishing Report

A Steinhatchee, Florida Fishing Report from
Steinhatchee, Florida Fishing Guide Captain Steve Kroll

pepperfish_key_galmour_shotHey Big Bend Fisherman,

As far as Trout fishing goes, it has been slow. It’s still alot like winter time fishing.

I found some good Trout Monday in potholes, as I have talked about before. But the water is warming fast this week, and the wind has not done it’s usual March thing….BLOW.

Today 3\10, I took my group offshore for some pinks and blacks. It was flat calm.

I’m going trout and red fishing tomorrow. I’ll take a box of squid though, in case it’s flat and the trout bite continues to be spotty or the reds don’t want to play.

Have a good week, GOD Bless and good luck.
Captain STEVE
