Big Bend Fishing Forecast (no hog futures here)

Fishing “Futures”

Typically, I don’t make predictions. Most of my fishing partners would agree it’s bad “juju”.

On this occasion, I will make an exception (with conditions). In my opinion, if these cold fronts we are now experiencing continue, and we get a cooler than average winter, as predicted by the wether Pro’s, I think we are looking at a terrific fall/winter season for both salt and freshwater fishing.

Water temps in the southern Big Bend area have fallen from the lower 80′s a few weeks ago, to the middle 60′s just off the Levy/Citrus County Coasts today.

The rivers and lakes of the Ocala National Forest have also seen a radical drop in temperature.

In both regions, this means one thing: GOOD FISHING.

Both salt and freshwater fish alike will be spawning soon, and the pre-spawn bite is hard to beat.

Speckled Trout and Reds are Biting Good!

Hey Fall Fisherman,

Now that we are wearing jackets and sweatshirts in?the mornings and the water temps have dropped, you know the Speckled Trout and Reds are biting good.

We have had days with high north winds and slick days, each with it’s own challenges.

Saltwater Assassin baits, Berkely Gulps, cutbait continue to get the job done. Skill level and style of fishing dictate the best method for your success. Also, cork or not, shallow or deep, are factors.

One of my last reports I sent a photo of a keeper-bonus Grouper, this week I’ve included of another bonus catch. A bull-red, 42″ long,? 26lbs, caught on 10lb test Triple Fish line, a model 2500 Shimano Stradic, 1/16oz assassin jighead, and white 3″ Gulp. Hooked, landed,? photographed and released.

My customer, Mr. Adams did a great job fighting this fish on light tackle and as quickly as possible made a quick release.

Thanks for Reading!

Chomping for the Gulf of Mexico

Chomping for the Gulf of Mexico!

I’m chomping at the bit to get back to the Grass Flats and Spoil Islands off of Yankeetown (Citrus/Levy counties coast).

Recently, between having freshwater trips to do, or the wind blowing 15-20 knots, I have been kept from any saltwater fishing since the 10th of the month.
?
Typically this time of year, the cold fronts move thru and we get 2-3 days of wind followed by several days of moderate weather.

Water temps off the Nature Coast right now are in the 70′s, which makes for good fishing.?? Air temp also in the 70′s? makes for a real comfortable trip.

Expect the Gag Grouper to move inside in the very near future.

Try Grouper “cicles” (frozen Spanish Sardine), fished around structure or hard bottom, in 20 to 30 feet of water for best results.

A Quickie for a Cedar Key Fishing Report

Cedar Key, Florida & Suwannee Area Fishing Report

It’s Friday, this report is a quickie. Don at Cedar Key Marina said that bunches of speckled trout are being caught. A little of everything some people have even caught tarpon.

Spanish mackerel and Reds are being hauled in, but sometimes you just got to move around to find them.

Grouper have been spotty due to the wind blowing, but seas are two feet today and?Don has several parties going out soooo……

We’ll get a better report Monday.

Steinhatchee Fishing Report, And the Bite Goes On

Steinhatchee Fishing Report
From Captain Steve

Trout and Reds continue to bite well. Limits are common.

I am?continuing to concetrate on shallow fish, mainly because the wind has?blown pretty good and makes the deeper flats a little rough.

Those?deeper flats do, however, produce some great bonus fish; mackerel,?bluefish, sandtrout, seabass, and flounder.

The Trout have been large?some days. A couple days the last few weeks we have had our limlt of?over 20″s. Red size has been upper slot. They can be caught in the?normal places, but we are continuing to catch reds on the flats also.
