Fall Bass Bite Is Looking Good

Recent rainfall, along with cooler temps, have the Largemouths biting. Over the past 3 weeks we’ve had a noticeable improvement in the numbers, as well as the size of Bass caught.

Saturday, 9/24, we caught and released several “keeper” Largemouths, including a 5 1/2 and 7 pounder. Typically the best time of day to fish Central Florida’s Ocklawaha River is early in the morning, although anytime is a good time to go fishing.

I expect the bite, as well as the size and number of fish, to improve as the days get shorter. We’re looking forward to another good spawn on the River, possibly before the year is out.

Until next time…see you on the Rivers!

Sometimes The Fish Win

Slick Charters Ocala Fishing GuideThe Bass bite has slowed over the last few weeks. You can blame it on a variety of reasons, but like someone once said, “It is what it is”!

Although we’ve yet to be skunked, the Largemouth bite has been weak. We’re getting hits on every bait, but they’re just not eating.

Occasionally we get a late summer spawn on the Ocklawaha River. When this happens the buck Bass go into their protect the bed mode, which would explain the behavior we’ve been seeing over the past few weeks. That’s my story and I’m sticking to it!

Pictured below are two of our most recent clients showing off their catch.

Till next time…see you on the River!

Lunker Largemouths

Slick Charters Ocala FishingThe Largemouth Bass bite on the Ocklawaha River near Ocala has improved over the last few weeks. Although we are not catching large numbers of fish, the size has definitely improved.

On our last few trips, we’ve caught and released several Bass over 6 lbs.. Pretty good for this time of year.

The best time of day to fish remains early in the morning or late afternoon. As always, the preferred bait is wild shiners (“you’ve either got one, or you need one”).

During the summer months the Largemouths spend most of the day under some sort of cover, whether it be vegetation, downed trees, or snags. Accordingly, the best method for catching them is to take off the floats and free line the shiners under and around the structure. Expect to loose a few hooks as well as fish, but persistence will eventually pay off.

Speaking of persistence , pictured below is Jason “Cajun Red” Worth with yet another Ocklawaha Lunker caught and released on the last shiner.

‘Til next time…see you on the River

Ocklawaha Fishing Report: The Largemouths Are Hungry

Slick Charters Ocala FishingThe Largemouths are coming off the bed, and they’re hungry.

Recently the Bass bite has improved on every trip. Around the first of the month, the majority of fish caught were on the small side, 14 to 18 inches.

On our last few trips the numbers have definitely increased, as well as the size of fish. Just yesterday we caught and released a 7 and 5 pound largemouth!

Pictured below are several of our most recent clients showing off their catch, and like they say, a picture is worth a thousand words. Don’t miss the boat! Gotta get-em while their hot…

Largemouth Bass Bite Gets Better

Slick Charters Ocala FishingSorry for the delayed report, but fortunately for good reason.”It’s our busy time of year”.

The Largemouth Bass bite has improved over the past few weeks .Although we’re not getting many fish over 6 pounds, the number of fish caught has improved.

Recently the a.m. bite has been best. Typically between 8 and 10 a.m..

This last cold front that passed thru last week slowed the bite, but I expect it to get back to normal this week.

Although the water level on the Ocklawaha River is very low, most of the snags and submerged obstructions were removed last week. As always, use caution when navigating any body of moving water. The snags and obstructions are constantly on the move.
