Bass fishing on the Ocklawaha River near Ocala has been fairly consistent over the past month or so. Plenty of bites, although most have been from schooling “buck Bass” getting ready for our first spawning period of the season.
I expect our first good pre-spawn bite to kick-off very soon, most likely around the first of December. Look for the size and number of Largemouth bass to improve as we approach 2015.
We fished the Ocklawaha River near Ocala Thursday, August 6, for Largemouths and did pretty fair especially for August.
Managed to get an early start, about 6:30 a.m., and caught and released about a dozen nice Bass by 10 a.m., two of which were over 5 lbs. Had to contend with lots of schoolers (small yearling Bass) killing our bait, but the action was non-stop up until about 11 a.m. .
The sun rose, and the bite was over. Glad we were in the right place at the right time….EARLY
