The Largemouth Bass Bite On The Ocklawaha River Is Exceptional
Over the past few months the Bass fishing has been exceptional, and I expect it to get even better as we approach our first major spawn of the season.
Although the window of opportunity has been limited to a few early morning hours each day, the bite has been very good. Yesterday, Sept. 27, we fished the heavy cover of the Ocklawaha River for just 2 hours, and wound up with 15 Largemouths from 2 to 8 pounds.
Again, this time of year you want to be fishing as early as possible. Typically by 10 a.m. the bite is over, so don’t be late. Remember…the early bird catches the fish.

FISH THE HEAVY COVER…THE HEAVIER THE BETTER
Bass fishing on the Ocklawaha River has been very good over the past several weeks. As I have said before, August is typically our slow season for the Largemouths, but for whatever reason we’ve been experiencing a late summer bite for the books.
Recently we’ve had no problem catching our limit of fish in just a few hours. Most of the Bass have been between 2and 5 lbs., with the occasional 8 lb’er.
This time of year, the Bass are holding tight up under the heavy cover. We’ve been getting 90% of our fish running wild shiners up to and under the vegetation, the heavier the better. The bite has been very good early, although around 10 a.m. they shut down.
There is a draw-down scheduled for the Rodman Reservoir in the next few days. Typically this means outstanding Bass fishing for the Kenwood/Orange Springs section of the Ocklawaha River.
Stay tuned and we will keep you apprised
‘Till next time…See you on the Rivers!
