It’s All About The Numbers

This Ocklawaha Fishing Report From Ocklawaha Fishing Guide Captain Nick

slick-charters-freshwater-glamour-shotThe number of Bass we’ve recently caught on the Ocklawaha River per trip is down compared to last year at this time, but the size is definitely up.

I pre-fished a couple of spots on Monday, 11/22, for an upcoming trip and ended up with a 4, 7, and 8 lb. Bass. Not bad for less than 2 hours of fishing.

Although the last 10 lb. Largemouth Bass a client caught was Sept. 28, we’ve managed to get a 5 lb. Bass or better on every trip since.

Recently we’ve accumulated a couple of inches of rainfall which should help with the numbers. Thanks to the man upstairs for that!

Captain Nick Says Endeaver to Perservere

“Endeavor to Persevere”

slick-charters-freshwater-glamour-shotI’ve had several bass trips on the Ocklawaha River over the past couple of weeks, and fortunately we have been able to find the fish.

The water level between the dams at Moss Bluff (south of Ocala) and Rodman is very low, which means we now have to cover more territory to find the same numbers of fish than just a few months ago.

We’ve averaged about a dozen Bass per half day trip between 2 and 6 lbs. throughout October. Not great, but not bad considering.

We just missed our chance at getting some much needed rain from Hurricane Ida by about 100 miles, and now the dry season is on us. Oh well! Best thing I know to do about the weather is pray for it to improve.

FYI…several miles of the Ocklawaha River has been cleared. It is hard to say how long it will last, but presently the waters are fairly navigatable from Lake Griffin north to Gores Landing.
