Get One For The Wall

One For The Wall
 
In the past week, we’ve fished the Oklawaha River 5 times with great results on every trip.  Good numbers of huge Largemouth Bass continue to be the rule.
 
The majority of these fish were caught on wild shiners.
 
Smaller schooling Bass are chasing bait through the day, and can be caught on almost any kind of small downsized baits, rather it be plastics or crank baits.
 
I can’t remember a better September Bass bite in many years.  Now’s the time to take advantage and get that one for the wall.

Lady Lucky

Well folks she has done it again. In last weeks saltwater report, I wrote that Rich and Bridgette Whitney of Tampa, had caught a variety of fish, with Bridgette catching the fish of the day, a 24 inch Redfish.

Monday, 9/08, I had the pleasure of taking the same couple on a freshwater Bass trip, on the Oklawaha River near Ocala. Rich, being an experienced Bass angler, was doing pretty fair, catching a few medium size Bass, along with several Pike from the start.

Bridgette, on the other hand, was struggling a little trying to get the technique down of fishing with wild shiners.

Then it happened, ker-splash. Bridgette exclaimed, “Fish on”! Apparently the girl learns fast. While Rich and I had our backs turned, she managed to hook and reel in a huge 8 lb. Bass all on her own. WOW!

Before days end they had caught a dozen nice Bass (6 each), and several large Pike.

Lady Luck, I don’t think so!

We’ve been very busy fishing the Ocklawaha River for Bass this week, with excellent results, 59 Bass in 3 short trips!  Gotta get them while you can!!

Bass Alert From Captain Nick
