Ocklawaha Bass Fishing is Improving

Silck ChartersThe Largemouth Bass bite on the Ocklawaha River near Ocala has steadily improved over the past month or so. Recently the numbers, as well as the size of fish caught, has increased.

On our latest trip, January 27th, my clients caught and released about 20 Largemouths, including several over 5 pounds. Expect this trend to improve as we approach our first spawning period of 2015.

Pictured below are several of our most recent clients and their catches.

Until next time, see you on the River!

Looks Like the Pre-spawn Bite Is On, Happy New Year to all!

Silck ChartersThe Largemouth Bass bite has exploded over the past couple of weeks. Lots of keeper size fish, as well as the occasional wall hanger. Looks like the pre-spawn bite is on!

The Pre-spawn Bite is Expected To Kick-off Soon

Silck ChartersBass fishing on the Ocklawaha River near Ocala has been fairly consistent over the past month or so. Plenty of bites, although most have been from schooling “buck Bass” getting ready for our first spawning period of the season.

I expect our first good pre-spawn bite to kick-off very soon, most likely around the first of December. Look for the size and number of Largemouth bass to improve as we approach 2015.

Until next time, see you on the River!

Expect The Largemouth Bass Bite To Improve

Silck ChartersThank goodness our long, relatively hot summer is coming to a close. Although the bass fishing has remained good throughout the past few months, the number of people fishing dramatically drops as the temperature rises, and who can blame them.

This is the time of year I usually set aside for boat repairs/improvements, catching up on chores I’ve been putting off, all while trying to beat the heat. Oh, let’s not forget about football.

As I mentioned, the Bass fishing has remained good throughout our region, and I expect the bite to improve with the fall. Saturday morning, 9/20, I fished for about 2 hours and caught 7 Bass, with 3 of them over 5 pounds. Pretty good for this time of year.

Also, big numbers of shrimp are being taken on “Little Lake George”, as well as some really nice Flounder. Look for the shrimp in the deeper, sandy bottom areas.

Good numbers of Trophy Bass are just around the corner. Time to make reservations for that trip of a lifetime!

Until next time, See you on the River

The Bass Bite Is Slowed A Bit On The Ocklawaha

Silck ChartersBass fishing on the Ocklawaha River near Ocala has slowed a bit, although the average size of fish caught has recently increased.  The Largemouths, for the most part, have been coming off the bed over the past few weeks, and these lunker females are hungry.

The majority of fish caught on our last few trips have been between 5 and 4 pounds, not bad for May.  Although we are not getting big numbers of fish, the one’s we are getting are well worth the sacrifice.

Best bet is to fish very early or late in the day, and fish the heavy cover, that’s where they live this time of year.

Until next time, see you on the River!
