How Hot Is It ?

Wednesday, June 16th, 2010

Three days this week we either tied or broke the all time record highs here in Ocala, Florida.

Temps are soaring and the fish continue to bite both in the fresh and salt water. The saltwater bite is definitely better during the early morning hours. We’ve had no problem limiting out on Sea Trout and Cobia lately, as well as plenty of now targeted species, including Grunts, Mackerel, and Sharks.

The trick is to go early, and target days when the high tide is before noon time. Most of our fishing recently has been done in about 20 feet of water, off the Levy and Citrus County coast.

Thankfully the oil spill in the Gulf has not effected the fishing in our region.

We’re all saying our prayers that the “experts” will get it under control soon. Words can’t express the DISGUST we feel over the entire situation.

‘Till next time, see you on the water!

THE FISHING IS GOOD ON THE GULF OF MEXICO

Fishing off the Citrus/Levy Count coasts continues to be very good for this time of year.

Although we’ve limited most of our trips to half a day, fishing the early morning hours really pays off.

Recently we’ve been able to limit out on Spotted Sea Trout.  We’ve also caught our fair share of Spanish Mackerel, Pink Mouth Grunts, and a variety of other species, including the occasional Snook and Cobia.

In a word the fishing has been good.

I spotted a water spout one day last week.  This is one of natures wonders you want to steer clear of.

Scallop season opened July 1st and closes Sept. 10th.  Better get-um while you can.

Keep Your Eye On The Ball

We fished the Spoil Islands off the Levy County Coast Monday, June 1, just north of the Withalacoochee River.

Found plenty of Spotted Sea Trout, although most of them were less than 15 inches in length, the legal limit.

Moved offshore a bit and found a small piece of structure that ,according to my “crystal ball ” ,( fish finder) ,was holding fish.

Anchored up and right off start catching 18 to 24 inch Trout, several nice size Pink Mouth Grunts, and Gag Grouper just shy of the 22 inch minimum.

Even had a couple of Cobia come up to the boat, but couldn’t convince them to bite a shrimp.

Needless to say, I added another waypoint on the GPS and will be returning to it soon.
